The Justice Ministry is about to make considerable changes to court proceedings by giving judges the power to set deadlines for submitting evidence, Justice Minister Tomáš Borec said on March 25. Borec said he believes that such changes will accelerate cases and thereby improve law enforcement and the business environment in Slovakia.
"In civil legal actions, we'll be re-forging the structure of court cases in depth ... the judge will be able to set a solid deadline by which it will be necessary to submit evidence. This could really accelerate the process," said Borec, as quoted by the TASR newswire, presenting his report on the business environment in Slovakia to social partners in the Economic and Social Council.
Economy Minister Tomáš Malatinský said that Slovakia had received the best assessment among the Visegrad Four countries in international rankings when it came to the quality of its business environment. "One worse thing is that Slovakia's position is stagnating, which has been partly caused by Slovakia's ambitions to consolidate its public finances, of course," Borec said, adding that his ministry has prepared 24 pro-growth measures to be included in legislation.
