Bratislava's M. R. Štefánik Airport (BTS) handled 244,500 passengers in July 2010, which is 7,601 more than in July 2009, when now bankrupt airline SkyEurope Airlines was still operating flights, BTS spokesperson Dana Madunická told the TASR newswire on August 23.
International air transport was used by 241,087 passengers which represents an increase of 6 percent. Domestic air transport recorded a 67-percent drop in a year-on-year comparison, with 3,210 domestic passengers this year.
The number of aircraft take-offs and landings dropped by 8 percent from last year’s 3,477 to 3,188 this year. The amount of freight transported went up to 1,509 tonnes in July 2010, a 23 percent y-o-y increase. Ryanair remains the airport's number one carrier, followed by charter flight providers Travel Service and Central Charter Airlines Slovakia.
