Visitors to Bratislava Castle may be forgiven for feeling like they have stepped into a small forest after dozens of trees were installed in its courtyard as part of Christmas decorations.
"These are not trees for sale," a teacher from the Czech Republic amusedly explained to his students earlier this week as they visited the castle and came across the trees lined up side by side.
One tree cost thousands of euros
In addition to the courtyard, trees decorated with small lights have also been placed at the entrance gate of the castle and other parts of its extensive grounds.

The trees are among many which the National Council of the Slovak Republic (NR SR) Office buys every year for grounds at Bratislava Castle and next to Parliament.
The office has ordered the same number of trees as last year – 280. Felling and delivering the trees cost €9,548 without VAT, with the office paying an average €33 without VAT for one tree with delivery.
