The Bratislava Regional Court decided that the state did not act correctly when it twice did not allow gas utility Slovenský Plynárenský Priemysel (SPP) to increase the price of natural gas for households. The court said that the Regulatory Council issued the final decision on prices even though it was the job of the head of the Office for Regulation of Network Industries (ÚRSO), the Sme daily reported on May 19.
It is not clear exactly which price proposals are involved in this case as SPP had filed about twenty appeals, Sme wrote, adding that the first two decisions might become precedent for other cases.
“The ruling has confirmed the stance of our company that the moves of the regulator in its pricing proceeding were not correct,” said the spokesperson for SPP, Peter Bednár, as quoted by Sme.
The head of ÚRSO, Jozef Holjenčík, did not comment on the ruling, saying that he wants to first carefully read the verdict, Sme wrote.
