THE POPULATION of Bratislava is getting older according to a report on the Health Status of Residents of the Capital. The report, based on data from 2009, was provided to the city council on January 27 by Mayor Milan Ftáčnik.
The average age of Bratislavans in 2000 was 38.4 years but it increased to 40.82 by 2009. The report predicted that the average age of residents in the capital city will continue to increase.
Nevertheless, the mayor told the council that residents of Bratislava have better health than other Slovaks, adding that the city should focus mainly on preventive health care for children so that they avoid serious health problems as adults, the SITA newswire wrote.
Anna Dyttertová, a member of the city council, suggested that the city should reactivate the city’s Health Office that used to organise lectures for Bratislavans on how to have healthy lifestyles.
