The annual event of the LGBTI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transfender and Intersex) community in Slovakia, Dúhový Pride (Rainbow Pride), will take place on June 28 in the Slovak capital.
Its main motto is “Come Out with Your Family” / “Poď von s rodinou”, and it calls on all people who don’t agree with the development in Slovak society which prefers “traditional”, i.e. families with two opposite-sex married parents to all other forms of families, to join the parade and accompanying events.
“Dúhový Pride Bratislava invites single parents, heterosexual unmarried couples, but also families who fulfil the “privileged” definition but do not agree with the political pressures to lawfully favour one specific type of family to others,” event spokeswoman Romana Schlesinger told the TASR newswire.
The goal of Dúhový Pride is to achieve a full-fledged and equal family life for LGBTI people and their families, to point to the pertaining problems and lacking rights of these people. The parade also aims at achieving systemic and state-supported removal of all forms of discrimination and social stigmatisation in everyday life, as well as celebrating the pride of the community.
There have been a host of accompanying events, like concerts, film screenings, and a staging of a play of the NoMantinels ensemble focusing on the issue of women and female migrants in Slovakia.
The festival will culminate on June 28 at 13:00 in the Hviezdoslavovo Square with the start of a parade.
The fifth year of the parade will be supported by 21 members of the international community, i.e. embassies, consulates, foreign offices, among others of Albania, Australia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Luxembourg, Norway, the United Kingdom, and the US, the SITA newswire wrote.
