Burials respecting nature and its ecosystem to a greater extent are available in Bratislava. Instead of traditional cemeteries, municipal funeral services provider Marianum allows cremation ashes to be deposited in the Háj Pokoja (Grove of Peace), located in the crematorium.

"This natural cemetery in Bratislava was created as a dignified alternative to the changing needs of the bereaved, how they view death and traditional burials," says Marianum.

Placed near trees or one's ashes scattered

Slovak law defines an ecological burial as the storage of cremated remains or human remains at a burial ground in a biodegradable urn.

In the Grove of Peace, it is possible to deposit ashes near the trees, scatter them or pour them directly into the ground.

By the trees, the ashes of the deceased are poured in or placed in a biodegradable urn in a hole near the roots of a selected tree, thus becoming a living tombstone.
