Bratislava’s main water utility will carry out a large-scale water supply interruption later this month as part of a long-planned modernisation of one of the city’s key water reservoirs.
The Bratislava Water Company (BVS) has announced a scheduled shutdown affecting around 400 supply points in the Old Town from 8:00 on 28 April until 14:00 on 29 April. The outage will allow for essential upgrades to the Baránok water reservoir on Ulica francúzskych partizánov.
“This modernisation includes the replacement of an automatic pressure station that no longer meets capacity requirements and suffers frequent malfunctions,” said BVS spokesperson Matúš Stračiak, adding that the company had minimised the duration of the outage as much as technically possible.
The affected area includes a wide swathe of residential streets: Mudroňova, V záhradách, Jančova, Hummelova, Čmelovec, Tichá, Svetlá, Slávičie údolie, Bartókova, Mozartova, Na Hrebienku, Rubinsteinova, Haydnova, Drotárska, Majakovského, Búdková, Javorinská, Myjavská, Broskyňová, Na stráni, Ľubinská, Vrchná, Vetvová and Riznerova.
To mitigate the disruption, BVS will deploy two large mobile water tankers throughout the area during the outage. Three smaller, 1,000-litre tanks will be stationed at designated locations (Hotel Albrecht, Mozartova and Svetlá), and residents will also be able to collect 11-litre bottles of drinking water from marked distribution carts (Hummelova, Obratisko Búdková, Rubinsteinova, Suza and Vetvová).
“Our priority is to ensure that all affected residents continue to have access to drinking water during this necessary shutdown,” Stračiak said.
Following the completion of the work, BVS will flush the pipeline network to clean it. The company is urging residents to run their taps briefly once the supply is restored and to clean any filters on taps that may have trapped sediment.
