BRATISLAVA police are close to clearing up their first bank robbery of the year, as a 25-year-old man stands accused of robbing an OTP Banka branch on Bzovícka Street last month.

The accused faces up to 12 years in prison, the news agency TASR wrote. On July 12, a robber entered the branch with a gun and demanded money from the teller. He left with about Sk350,000 (€8,754) in a plastic bag.

Although no customers were present at that time, the video camera above the teller gave police a clear image of the man. Police seized him on July 31, and following identification, the questioning of witnesses, and a house search, the suspect was placed in pre-trial custody.

Six other bank robberies in the Bratislava region this year have yet to be cleared up.
