SLOVAKIA’s gay pride parade, Rainbow Pride Bratislava, will again be held in the capital city in 2011.
“The biggest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) event in Slovakia will take place on June 4,” Romana Schlesinger, the Executive Director of the event, told the SITA newswire. She said preparations are ongoing and that the 2011 programme will have more interesting accompanying cultural events and a musical programme. She added that she expects the parade across Bratislava to be safer than last year, when the first ever pride parade in Slovakia was disrupted in several ways.
“The organisation of Rainbow Pride Bratislava 2011 is in full swing,” Schlesinger said. “The success of the first year motivated us and we cannot just stop. We would like to establish several unique spots for open discussions about human rights.”
The organisers said members of the public will have an opportunity to see several movies and theatre performances, to take part in discussions and to view exhibitions on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender rights during a week of accompanying events.
