BRATISLAVA municipal deputies will probably decide over the sale of Kamenné Square, located near the town’s centre, on October 24. The possible buyer, British developer Lordship Real Estate, has offered more than €1.758 million. The firm plans to revitalise the square, the TASR newswire reported on October 18.
The town is to sell the land, encompassing an area of 3,600 square metres, without announcing a public competition. The investor wants, together with Tesco, which owns a shop in the square, to restore the space and “fill it with corresponding functions”. The existing buildings, including Hotel Kyjev and the shopping centre, should become part of the new image in a thoughtful and sensitive way, according to Bratislava representatives.
The project will not have a negative impact on the quality of the public space and the image of the locality, which is a gateway to Bratislava’s downtown. Kamenné Square lacks green space and places to relax, the city’s representatives said, as reported by TASR.
The investor plans to announce two competitions: one to determine possibilities for using the space, and the second to revitalise the public space and the nearby streets, TASR wrote.
According to the survey, which Lordship Real Estate carried out in March, up to 70 percent of people who live in the Old Town city borough and 65 percent of inhabitants of other boroughs are dissatisfied with the current image of Kamenné Square. Only about 10 percent say that it is satisfactory and there is no need to change it, as reported by TASR.
