Old Town district spokesperson Alena Kopřivová said that merican embassy employees will be instructing people and answering their questions in connection with ESTA in the square’s Musical Arbour (Hudobný altánok) from 1-3 p.m. It is a promotional event, as Slovaks will soon use ESTA to travel to the United States. Those who need more information are welcome to visit the American Embassy’s website as well, Kopřivová said.

The visa requirement for Slovaks travelling to the U.S. will be dropped on November 17, the anniversary of the Velvet Revolution of 1989. Before traveling to the U.S., people will have to fill out an ESTA application on the Internet and acquire a biometric passport, which is equipped with a chip and a digital photograph.

Travelers must fill out the application at least 72 hours before their trip and await approval. The permit is valid for two years, and the holder is allowed to stay in the U.S. no longer than three consecutive months. Anyone who doesn't have a biometric passport will have to ask for a visa at the American Embassy. TASR
