Slovak Prime Minister Iveta Radičová on Thursday, December 9, visited the Volkswagen Slovakia plant in Bratislava, whose 6,800 employees make it one of the biggest employers in Slovakia.
The chairman of Volkswagen Slovakia's board of directors, Andreas Tostmann, informed Radičová about the plant's plans, especially those related to production of Volkswagen's new car line, the New Small Family, which is planned to begin in 2011. Once the new model starts rolling off the plant's assembly lines next year, Volkswagen Slovakia's annual production should rise to 400,000 cars. Production of the new model will translate into 1,500 new jobs in the plant, plus thousands of others among Volkswagen's suppliers and sub-suppliers, the TASR newswire reported, citing Volkswagen Slovakia spokesman Vladimír Machalík.
