Bratislava will commemorate the 9/11 tragedy in the USA

Slovaks will be able to participate in a ceremony to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the September 11, 2011 terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington DC that will be held in Bratislava this Sunday, September 11. The information was announced by Bratislava Mayor Milan Ftáčnik after meeting with the US Ambassador to Slovakia, Theodore Sedgwick, the TASR newswire reported.

The event is organised by the US Embassy in cooperation with Bratislava and the official commemoration will begin on Sunday at 14:45, symbolically the time when the first plane hit the World Trade Center in New York. Bells of the St Martin’s Cathedral and other churches in Bratislava are set to begin ringing at this time.

Part of the accompanying events will be a blood donation campaign at the seat of the Old Town offices that will be held on Friday, September 9.
