They gather it via the Uber mobile application in cooperation with the Food Bank of Slovakia (PBS) and Bratislava’s Petržalka borough. The inhabitants of Bratislava donated a total of 1,422 pieces of food and toiletries, the SITA newswire reported.
Except for Bratislava, the collection simultaneously took place in Prague and Budapest.
“I want to thank all Bratislavans who participated in this event,” Petržalka’s Mayor Vladimír Bajan said, as quoted by SITA, adding he appreciates the examples of good cooperation. He also thanked the organisers.
The donations will be distributed by the employees of the social care department of Petržalka’s municipal authority to families, seniors and also individuals who need them the most.
The collection took place via the Uber application after the users chose the Donate Food service. Then a vehicle arrived, which took the food and brought it to the PBS warehouses for free. There were three vehicles collecting the food, which were taking it from various parts of Bratislava. Some donors even bought the food in a shop and then gave it to volunteers.
“We welcome every similar opportunity to help more people in need,” Marko Urdzik from PBS said, as quoted by SITA. “It is important to realise in these days that there are many people less happy than us, who will welcome such help.”
