Brides competed in a Wedding Run

IN BÁNOVCE nad Bebravou, the first “run in a wedding gown” in Slovakia took place. Organised by a wedding agency that rents wedding gowns and other necessities for the ceremony on July 20, the competition had simple rules: girls between 17 and 99 had to bring their own sneakers and wedding gowns, and had to run across the local square.

“I found on the internet that a similar contest takes place in England, so I decided to organise one in Slovakia as there has been nothing like this so far,” Mário Zachar told the Nový čas daily. Ten women ran in Bánovce for the prize – a voucher for the purchase or borrowing of props for a wedding worth €2,000. Not all contestants plan to marry soon – and the winner least of all. “The running was uncomfortable, it was hot, and I felt squeezed in the corsage,” Ivana Mutňanská said. “I do not plan to marry; I have two more years to study. But there are a few people around me to whom I could give the voucher, like my cousin, who is going to marry soon. I will take part next year, too, and I will again give the prize to someone else,” she concluded.
