Bridging nations

A RECENT exhibition in the Nitra Gallery presents the works of Slovak, Czech and Scottish artists. The full name is Nové Mosty (New Bridges) 11:11 and it is comprised of works by 11 Slovak and Czech artists and 11 Scottish ones.

Made in collaboration with the Society of Scottish Artists (SSA), it is connected to previous exhibitions, exchanges and events organised in this way both in Slovakia (Piešťany) and Scotland (Edinburgh).

“Bridges Scotland marks the climax of what started out as an exciting SSA opportunity and has grown into friendships and collaborative partnerships between Scotland and Slovakia,” Louise Ritchie, president of the SSA and curator of the Scottish part of the exhibition, wrote on the society’s website. “These two countries, with similar drives for individual identity and creative recognition, have much in common despite our differing artistic traditions and expertise.”

“The selection of artists was made in an effort to ma-ke space for a dialogue bet-ween artists who work with various artistic programmes in individual media,” Karol Felix, curator of the Slovak-Czech part, told the TASR newswire. “It also has the ambition to find potential parallels between them.”

Felix added that the exhibition should present a wider group of mediums: painting, sculpture, graphic art, photography and space installation. The project also aims to present the works of artists from three countries in a wider international context.

The New Bridges 11:11 exhibition can be seen until August 31 in the Representation Rooms of the Nitra Gallery in Župné Square in Nitra, Tuesdays to Fridays between 10:00 and 18:00, and on weekends from 13:00 to 18:00.
