Todd told Slovak Deputy Prime Minister Pál Csáky that Slovak citizens would be able to work, study, or do business under equal conditions as EU inhabitants.

However, the ambassador underscored that London would not permit the abuse of its social system.

According to Todd, the British government has always supported EU enlargement and treating new members in the same way as current members. But those wishing simply to benefit from social welfare are not welcome and they will certainly not receive any aid, he added.

The British government is ready to make its already tough social benefits system even stricter.

Csáky assured the British ambassador that Slovak citizens have no reason to seek welfare in any EU country.
