SLOVAKS will no longer be recruited to work in a hospital in the British town of Basildon after eight Slovak employees were fired for misconduct.
Stanislava Smith of the British recruitment company Windsor Workforce, which arranged cleaning and food distribution jobs for Slovak applicants in the hospital, said the applicants had been asked at their interviews in Košice to bring enough money for food and accommodation until they received their first salaries.
However, when they arrived in Basildon, the Slovaks had no money to pay a deposit for their accommodation, the SITA news agency wrote.
The workers needed about Sk20,000-25,000 (€515 to €614).
"When they came they were dirty, hungry, laden with luggage and had no money for food or housing. Because they were tired, they were unable to perform their work in the hospital. As a result the hospital withdrew the contract with Windsor Workforce and the hospital announced it would no longer cooperate with Slovak citizens," said Smith.
