Brits devoted to bat preservation come to Slovakia

The diversity of bat species in Slovakia attracts tourists from Great Britain every year, including professionals devoted to bat protection. Some tours through mining entrances and church attics have already started in Revúca, Banská Bystrica Region, the TASR newswire reported.

“An ecologist approached me approximately six years ago and we walked across almost half of Slovakia together,” said Martin Ceľuch from the Association for Protection of Bats in Slovakia, as quoted by TASR, adding that a number of bat species, even with numerous colonies, live in Slovakia.

This fact, according to him, literally enthralled the Brits.

“Now, groups of some eight people come over twice a year,” he added.

Aside from tourism the visitors help to monitor bat colonies in addition to cleaning attics where bats have been found.
