THE EUROPEAN Commission (EC) has sent a first warning letter to Slovakia and six other European Union (EU) member states arguing that the countries' bilateral treaties on aviation services with the US are not in line with EU laws, according to the SME daily.
The EC stated that the treaties include a so-called nationality clause, which provides advantageous conditions to the respective signatory states. According to the EC, this is against the EU's legislation, breaching the right of free enterprise.
Apart from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Ireland, Spain, and Malta also received first warnings. The EC also sent second warnings on the same subject to France, Greece, Italy and Portugal.
