Jozef Čentéš will remain the ruling coalition's candidate for the post of general prosecutor, said Béla Bugár, chairman of the coalition party Most-Híd, following an inconclusive secret ballot for the position on Tuesday, December 7, the SITA newswire reported.
He said he is glad that the coalition partners respected an agreement from Monday not to cast their ballots, thus delaying the selection of the next general prosecutor. The coalition will now prepare legislative changes to make the next selection ballot public. A group of deputies, in particular those who are members of parliament’s constitutional and legal affairs committee, will prepare a bill by January 15.
Bugár rejected statements by the leader of the opposition Smer party, Robert Fico, who said a public vote would restrict individual deputies’ freedom.
