THE CHAIRMAN of the Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) Béla Bugár suspects that the Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS) is behind the campaign against Agriculture Minister Zsolt Simon, the daily SME reported.
"I do not want to accuse the SIS but if our investigations ends up with a result that yes [our suspicions are founded], either the leadership of SIS or the cabinet will fall down," Bugár told said in a discussion on TV Markíza.
For about two weeks the media has been reporting about subsidies given to a company of which the minister was a co-owner. According to Bugár, there is also false information published in various SIS reports.
Martin Maruška, spokesman for Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda said that they had no such information.
Vice-chairman of defence caucus of the ruling Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) Roman Vavrík said that Bugár is not the kind of man who would talk nonsense. "If he has serious arguments we will have to take them into account," he said. Vavrík has been trying to bring the SIS under stricter control for some time.
