SLOVAKIA's bus companies protested against insufficient financing November 15 by operating a "go-slow". The 18 members of the SAD (Slovak Bus Transportation) group of companies cut their Monday service to a Saturday schedule.
The go-slow was in protest against what the companies see as a lack of action by the government to deal with insufficient funding in the sector, the SITA news agency wrote.
The move mainly affected people who commute to companies on the outskirts of cities, but had little impact on major firms. Volkswagen Bratislava already provides its own bus transport for workers, while U.S. Steel Košice confirmed that most of its commuting employees had arranged alternative transport.
Additional train services were laid on to compensate for the fewer buses.
This latest protest follows one in October when drivers sounded their horns for five minutes on two consecutive days.
