Bush thanks Slovaks for cordial welcome

US PRESIDENT George W Bush has thanked the Slovak people for the cordial welcome extended to him on his recent visit to Slovakia.

In a letter to Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič, President Bush wrote, "My trip to Slovakia is one I will never forget," Gašparovič's spokesman Marek Trubač told the TASR news agency.

On behalf of himself and his wife Laura, Bush expressed his pleasure at meeting the Slovak president and his wife, Silvia.

On February 24, some 4,000 Slovaks gathered in Bratislava's Hviezdoslavovo square to listen to Bush speak ahead of his summit meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
