The Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SOPK) said on Tuesday, July 13, that it is in talks with the new government aimed at having public procurement procedures altered in order to prevent and eliminate corruption.
The changes, according to SOPK chairman Peter Mihók, should address time constraints and the practice of tailoring tendering procedure terms and conditions for a pre-selected company. The first discussions between SOPK and the governing parties centred on the development of business in Slovakia and the deregulation of the Labour Code in favour of more flexible employment conditions. Mihók also told reporters that the chamber wants the new justice minister to address poor law enforcement, which he said is Slovakia’s weak spot and goes hand in hand with corruption.
