THE HEARING involving business tycoon Jozef Majský will continue in front of the Specialised Criminal Court in Pezinok after a nearly one-and-a-half year break, the TASR newswire reported on January 8.
Majský and his two companions have been accused in a case of embezzlement of unlicensed non-banking financial companies BMG Invest and Horizont Slovakia.
The court hearing is scheduled for March 6, 2014, TASR reported. The trial was halted for a year and four months due to the fact that the files concerning the case against Dávid B., who was sentenced in a separate trial for asset stripping, was submitted to the Supreme Court after the sentence was appealed.
The last court hearing took place on November 2012, according to TASR.
The trial can now move to its final stage, provided no more proposals for evidence are submitted to the court.
Majský was sentenced by the former Special Court in 2007 to 12 years in prison, while his companions were sentenced to 10 and 11 years. The Supreme Court later cancelled the verdict and the trial is now continuing at the Specialised Criminal Court.
The Specialised Criminal Court sentenced Dávid B. to five years in prison in November 2010. He was convicted of asset stripping involving the unlicensed non-banking financial firms BMG Invest and Horizont Slovakia. The court found him guilty of fraud amounting to Sk5.6 million (about €185,866). According to the prosecution, he withdrew the money from one of Horizont’s subsidiaries, Horizont Investment and Consulting.
The defendant was also ordered by the court to pay the money back. Originally, the case was part of a larger court case involving the stripping of assets from the firms, but the court decided to accept the prosecutor’s proposal to hold a separate proceeding against the defendant, who appealed against the verdict.
