THE CABINET appointed new plenipotentiaries on July 21 and at the same time cancelled some plenipotentiary posts that were viewed as no longer necessary.

Roland Sill was named government proxy for information society. He took up the post on July 22. His appointment was preceded by the recall of his predecessor Pavol Tarina, based on a proposal from Prime Minister Iveta Radičová, the SITA newswire reported.

The cabinet also approved the nomination of Miroslav Pollák to the post of government plenipotentiary for the Roma communities. Pollák is the first non-Roma to hold the position. He has been working on projects for Roma communities for 13 years, the Sme daily wrote.

The cabinet also dismissed Daniel Duchoň as government plenipotentiary for the preparation and realisation of an informal meeting of NATO defence ministers in Slovakia and permanently abolished the position.

The cabinet also cancelled the posts of the proxy for the construction of road infrastructure, which was held by Igor Choma and the proxy for youth and sports, held by Dušan Galis. Both Choma and Galis are currently Smer MPs. Radičová suggested earlier that the cabinet might get another plenipotentiary who would be responsible for the interaction between the government and NGOs.
