IVAN Šramko, the current vice-governor of the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS), was given the go-ahead to assume the post of Governor by the Cabinet yesterday.
According to the SME daily, top representatives of the ruling parties also decided that Martin Barto should become the next vice-governor. However, his nomination is yet to be given Cabinet approval.
Barto, who recently joined the NBS's Banking Board, will have to respect the planned euro-adoption date, 2009, and unlike his predecessor in the vice-governor post, will not supervise the banking sector.
Finance Minister Ivan Mikoš argued that Barto is not experienced enough to oversee this sector.
