The Slovak Cabinet led by Prime Minister Iveta Radičová passed the government program statement. The document is now awaiting approval from parliament in early August. The vote in parliament will at the same time be viewed as a vote of confidence for the new government, TASR newswire wrote.
The new government is proposing a significant restriction in the immunity enjoyed by members of parliament, public officials as well as judges. The deputy immunity is to be applied only to their statements in parliament, no longer covering transgressions of rules outside parliament.
Enhancing the quality of life and living standards stands as the new government's priority while it also plans to revive economic growth and Slovakia's competitiveness.
PM Iveta Radičová has also said that the programme contains no radical reforms.
"Reforms are not launched for the sake of reforms," Radičová said at a press conference as quoted by TASR.
According to Radičová, the programme is designed to realistically address the social situation of citizens and the state of the economy. She said that the cabinet refuses to put the entire burden on people, with the existing problems to be addressed by gradual measures rather than "shock therapy".
She added that the programme is in accordance with the election agenda and the promises made by the right-wing parties, TASR wrote.
