The cabinet has withdrawn its proposal to appoint Kamil Krnáč (an MP for Freedom and Solidarity (SaS)) as director of the National Security Authority (NBÚ), after parliament dropped the proposal in October.
Krnáč is the fourth candidate for the post, the TASR newswire wrote. The governing parties previously rejected candidates Ján Stano (for being employed at the Slovak Intelligence Service during Vladimír Mečiar's premiership in the 1990s), Peter Paluda (rejected by the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) for unspecified reasons) and Juraj Kliment (who was involved as a judge in the case of the murder of Ľudmila Cervanová and was therefore rejected by Most-Híd's OKS faction).
The NBÚ is currently headed by František Blanárik (a Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) nominee), who resigned from his post six months ago but is still acting as head of the office until his successor is appointed.
