Font size: A - | A +

THE CABINET unanimously agreed to begin expropriation for the future Kia car plant near Žilina.

Around 40 of the total 220 hectares of land to be used for the manufacturing plant has still not been settled because land owners are refusing to sell it for the price offered by the state, the SME daily wrote. The state is offering approximately Sk140 per square meter, while the landowners are asking for Sk300 to Sk350.

Economy Minister Pavol Rusko said expropriation was "the best of [the existing] bad possibilities". The cabinet is under time pressure to settle the land for Kia and even the expropriation is going to delay the project.

The landowners said that they would use all legal means to protect themselves against the cabinet’s decision.
