The Cabinet approved the National Border Protection Plan, a foundational document concerning the external EU border between Slovakia and Ukraine, on May 30.
The plan includes measures that will be taken at the Slovak borders and in non-EU countries, especially transition countries and countries that many migrants come from.
With respect to the protection of Slovakia's eastern border, equipment and supplies - including off-road vehicles, four-wheelers, motorcycles and special SUVs - are expected to be provided by the Schengen transition fund.
By joining the Schengen zone, Slovakia commits itself to protect its 98-kilometre border with Ukraine. According to Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák, there are 91 jobs available with the border police. By late August, there should be 19 major monitoring facilities operating on the eastern border.
