With respect to the protection of Slovakia's eastern border, equipment and supplies - including off-road vehicles, four-wheelers, motorcycles and special SUVs - are expected to be provided by the Schengen transition fund.

By joining the Schengen zone, Slovakia commits itself to protect its 98-kilometre border with Ukraine. According to Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák, there are 91 jobs available with the border police. By late August, there should be 19 major monitoring facilities operating on the eastern border.
