ON AUGUST 20 at midnight the election campaign officially began, as members of parliament left the legislature having approved in the last 48 hours 11 of the 18 laws President Rudolf Schuster had returned for further debate.
The parliament over its four years in office has approved a record 533 laws as Slovakia has been changing its legislation to streamline it with European Union laws. The country hopes to receive an invitation to join the 15-member bloc at a summit in Copenhagen this December.
