POLITICAL parties' candidates for the June 17 general elections include people who were active in companies that left debts behind as well as people whose companies drew state aid in the past, according to the findings of the Fair Play Alliance watchdog.
Among such people is number eight on Smer's candidate list Martin Glváč, for instance. During the government of the former Prime Minister Vladimír Mečiar and his Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS), Glváč was the chairman of the board of directors of the agency Donar, which received Sk50 million in 1997 from the Culture Ministry for "extraordinary" activities. One year later Donar prepared the HZDS' election campaign.
During the last Mečiar government, Glváč also was active in Štúdio Koliba film company, which received Sk25 million from the Culture Ministry to produce the movies "Jánošík" and "Pribina." Neither movie was completed.
HZDS candidate number 31 Pavol Kačic was a member of the board of directors in R-Press, the publisher of the now defunct, pro-HZDS daily Slovenská republika. R-Press also received funding from the Culture Ministry.
The Fair Play Alliance list includes many other names of current candidates, including the former members of the New Citizen's Alliance and other parties.
