POLITICAL parties' candidates for the June 17 general elections include people who were active in companies that left debts behind, as well as people whose companies received state subsidies in the past, according to the findings of the Fair Play Alliance watchdog.
Among such people is Martin Glváč, who occupies the eighth position on Smer's candidate list. During the government of the former Prime Minister Vladimír Mečiar and his Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS), Glváč was the chairman of the board of directors for Donar, which received Sk50 million from the Culture Ministry for "extraordinary" activities. One year later, Donar prepared the HZDS' election campaign.
During the last Mečiar government, Glváč was also active in the Štúdio Koliba film company, which received Sk25 million from the Culture Ministry to produce the films "Jánošík" and "Pribina". Neither movie was completed.
HZDS candidate number 31, Pavol Kačic, was a member of the board of directors in R-Press, the publisher of the defunct, pro-HZDS daily Slovenská republika. R-Press also received funding from the Culture Ministry.
The Fair Play Alliance list includes the names of many other current candidates, including former members of the New Citizen's Alliance and other parties.
