Slovak Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs, Knowledge-based Society, and Human Rights and Minorities Dušan Čaplovič, who is on a working visit to Italy, on May 26 met Italy’s minister for co-ordination of european policies, Andrea Ronchi, and Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone.
In his talks with Cardinal Bertone, Čaplovič discussed a visit by Pope Benedict XVI to Slovakia. He added that he proposed to Bertone a papal visit in 2012, in connection with the preparations of the Slovak Bishops Conference to mark the celebration of the 1150th anniversary of the arrival of St. Cyril and St. Method in Great Moravia, set for 2013.
Čaplovič spoke to Ronchi about co-operation between Slovakia and Italy in the area of strategic energy resources, and investment.
On Wednesday, May 27, Čaplovič will be granted an audience with the pope, and will also be welcomed by Jean-Pierre Mazery, the Grand Chancellor of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. TASR
