Čaplovič to nominate new government plenipotentiary for Roma communities in August

Deputy Prime Minister for a Knowledge-based Society, European Affairs, Human Rights and Minorities Dušan Čaplovič told a press conference on Tuesday, July 7, that he would nominate a new government proxy for the Roma communities at a government session after August 15.

Čaplovič did not say who would replace Anina Botošová, the previous proxy, who was dismissed earlier in June amid controversy and recriminations.

“Proposals from various organisations have come in. I’ll have them evaluated. I want to find a person who will be active and who will be able to face problems not only in the villages, but somebody who will also have good contacts with the ministries,” said Čaplovič at the press conference, which was dedicated to the Slovak presidency of the ‘Decade of Integration of the Roma Population 2005-15’ programme, which began on July 1 and will last one year.
