THE PRIVATIZATION of railway company Cargo Slovakia has been postponed. Companies interested in buying 100 percent of Cargo Slovakia now have until the end of January, instead of the middle of the month, to submit their binding bids, the daily SME reported.

The potential bidders themselves asked for the postponement. According to Tomáš Šarluška, the ministry's spokesman, two bidders asked the privatization commission to postpone the date for submitting bids because of the snow calamity over Christmas.

The calamity caused delays in the preparation of documents needed in the bidding process.

There are six potential bidders for Cargo Slovakia: Cargo Central Europe (Penta, Railworld, MID Europe Partners); German Deutsche Bahn AG through daughter company Railion; Austrian ÖBB through daughter company Rail Cargo Austria; Cargo Cooperation Consortium (Hungarian MÁV, Slavia Capital); Polish PKP; American Genesee & Wyoming.
