Chances fading for microwave toll system

If Slovakia wants to install an electronic toll collection system by the beginning of 2009, there is not enough time to use microwave technology to do it, the Hospodárske Noviny reported on September 18.

The whole project has already been delayed, because the National Highway Company (NDS) decided to cancel the original tender and announce a new tender. The daily wrote that if the tender was evaluated already today and the microwave system won, there would be a delay of three months for installing that technology.

The time schedule would instead favour satellite system suppliers, such as Siemens, Slovak Telecom and the ToSy consortium.

The new tender, whose results should be known at the beginning of January, does not specify the technology to be used for the toll system.
