THE SLOVAK government approved changes to the law on advertising that means tobacco ads can only be displayed in places where tobacco products are sold, the Pravda daily reported.
Currently, Slovak laws ban advertisements for tobacco in the media. Under the approved changes, however, tobacco firms will be banned from promoting their products through event sponsorship.
The law should take effect in December this year.
Apart from the State veterinary and food inspection office, the Slovak trade inspection authority (SOI) will also check adherence to the law.
A maximum fine of Sk10 million (€257,000) can be imposed for breaking the new restrictions.
