VICE-chairperson of China’s National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Jiarui Wang, along with his delegation visited Slovakia on December 8, the TASR newswire reported.
Wang met Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and Parliament Speaker Peter Pellegrini.
“Mr Prime Minister told me that he’s committed to boosting the development of cooperation between Slovakia and China and familiarised me with some major projects,” said Wang, as quoted by TASR. “I confirmed to him that such cooperation is also our wish.”
According to the Chinese official, there is a wide range of options for collaboration between the two countries. He stated that Slovakia could be of interest for China thanks to its infrastructure, environmental projects and engineering.
“We greatly appreciate partnership with central and eastern European countries,” Wang said, as quoted by TASR. “We place great emphasis on new technologies that are environmentally friendly, but our companies also offer other opportunities for cooperation.”
President of the Slovak-Chinese Chamber of Commerce Ivan Haluška pointed to a great deal of interest on the part of China in cooperation, but also admitted that Slovak government authorities display little initiative in this regard.
“Getting our minister to travel to China is a big problem,” Haluška said, as quoted by TASR. “But perhaps the economic pressure that is here will prompt the government into action. Slovakia can become a centre for the development of investments in V4 countries.”
Wang also attended a conference at the Chinese Embassy in Bratislava, where he spoke about the situation in China’s development from economic, social and legal viewpoints. According to him, China is currently reforming its economy and opening itself to the world while also trying to build the rule of law.
“We want to learn from developed countries – we need to make our economy grow,” Wang said, as quoted by TASR. “Along with the establishment of the rule of law and an increase in the standard of living, these are our main goals.”
