The Slovak National Theatre (SND) will likely be led by opera singer Marián Chudovský, the Sme daily wrote in its June 14 issue. The opera singer, who has previously led the opera section and the whole SND, is expected to return to the top post after having won the second round of a public competition but he must still be confirmed for the post by Culture Minister Marek Maďarič.

Previous SND head Ondrej Šoth, a choreographer by vocation, submitted his resignation to former culture minister Daniel Krajcer last year. Šoth said his decision was aimed at helping to calm the situation at the SND amid audits of the theatre that found violations of budgetary rules. Šoth resigned on September 20, 2012 and since then Milan Vajdička has been authorised to lead the SND.

The first round of a public search in March 2012 brought no clear winner. In the recent round, Chudovský got seven votes out of a total of 11 of the committee members; two went to his rival, conductor Anton Popovič, and two committee members abstained from the vote.
