A new political party is being formed in Slovakia, with the preparation committee of the Citizen Rights Party (Strana občianskych práv [SPO]) launching a petition on Wednesday, May 8, to collect the 10,000 signatures needed for registration with the Interior Ministry.
The committee spokesperson, Veronika Machová, told the TASR newswire that the party intends to throw its hat into the ring for the European Parliament elections in June 2014 in an attempt to secure two MEP seats. The party supports the teachers’ strike, intends to change Slovakia's election system by creating three election districts instead of the current one, proposes to change the mandate of judges to a period of ten years (judges are currently appointed for life), and fight "the injustices committed against helpless groups of citizens who can't fight back properly".
