JOINTLY hosting the 2022 Winter Olympic Games with Poland is estimated to cost Slovakia €177 million, the SITA newswire reported.

The plan calls for the games to be hosted in Krakow Poland, with Jasná in Slovakia’s Low Tatras handling the alpine ski disciplines. The total bill would be covered by the state, with €169 million making up investment costs and the remaining €8 million going toward operating the competitions. As much as 60 percent of the investment costs would go into building transport infrastructure.

The estimate comes from a report from Krakow on the state of the preparations, which the cabinet acknowledged at its February 26 session.

Krakow is competing to become the venue of the 2022 Winter Olympics against other five candidates (Almaty, Beijing, Lviv, Oslo and Stockholm). Slovakia would only host alpine skiing disciplines in Jasná in the Liptovský Mikuláš district.
