Members of the ruling coalition said after a high-level meeting on January 28 that tensions over the alleged illegal surveillance of ANO party head Pavol Rusko had cooled, and that a deal would soon be reached.
ANO is said to be demanding it be allowed to appoint its nominees to high-level posts in the interior ministry and secret service.
In early January, Rusko alleged that he had been handed a cassette tape recording of a telephone conversation with a journalist, and claimed the recording was proof his phone had been illegally tapped by state security officials.
However, during the ensuing uproar, Rusko failed to produce evidence of his claims, leading some observers to speculate the affair had been trumped up to oust police officials who had promised tougher action against crime.
