In response to the aeroplane crash in Russia that took the life of Slovak ice hockey legend Pavol Demitra, coalition leaders decided not to hold a press conference after their talks, SITA noted.

“We talked a lot also about the state budget, but this theme remained open,” Zajac stated. “Some topics were closed but at this moment I really do not want to talk about them.

Coalition leaders, apart from finding funds to cover additional requirements of individual ministries, are searching for funds to cover a potentially larger deficit in the budget expected from lower-than-originally predicted economic growth. The coalition leaders are also scheduled to discuss changes in taxes, with Prime Minister Iveta Radičová saying after the cabinet session that her party, the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), will prefer introduction of a special tax on banks.
