SLOVAK police caught a member of the current ruling coalition party taking a bribe on March 8.
A deputy of the local parliament in Bratislava's Devínska Nová Ves suburb, Jozef Molnár from the ruling Smer party, accepted a bribe of Sk2.3 million in return for influencing the local parliament to approve the sale and re-classification of a plot of land near the Volkswagen plant. He requested the payout from a representative of a foreign company in early 2006.
Molnár, together with a so far unidentified accomplice, received Sk2 million in February and then demanded an additional Sk600,000. He was detained after receiving an advance of Sk300,000 on March 8.
