The CWUR publishes the only global university ranking that measures the quality of education and training of students as well as the prestige of the faculty members and the quality of their research, without relying on surveys and university data submissions, according to the official website. It evaluated more than 22,000 universities from different countries around the globe, and picked only 1,000 that appeared in the ranking.

This means that Comenius University belongs among 3.3 percent of the best universities in the world, said the university’s spokesperson, Andrea Földváryová.

“The placement in the top 1,000 is proof of the quality of education in combination with an evaluation of results of the research of our university,” UK Rector Karol Mičieta said, as quoted by SITA. “Our research activity and the quality of education are comparable with the global leaders.”

The ranking is topped by Harvard University. Stanford University placed second, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (all US), Cambridge University and Oxford University (both UK). Regarding the neighbouring countries, the Czech Republic has five universities among the top 1,000, with the best position going to Charles University in Prague, which placed 313th, SITA reported.
