ŠTEFAN Potocký, a resident of Kalná nad Hronom in Nitra Region, has filed a criminal complaint with the Office of the General Prosecutor alleging that the police misused their authority when dealing with the Gorilla Protest in Bratislava on March 9, the TASR newswire reported.
“We carefully considered filing the criminal complaint after the Interior Ministry released a statement saying that the police intervention against demonstrators was justified and appropriate, as the protesters were throwing cobblestones [at police officers],” read a media statement by Potocký.
He stated that the incident was provoked by the police, who had accompanied protestors at the rally as they marched towards the parliament building, where riot police were waiting.
“Defenceless and peaceful citizens were then dispersed by [riot police] in a brutal manner,” Potocký stated, as quoted by TASR.
He submitted video recordings and photographs to the prosecutor’s office that he claims show that the march was peaceful.
